Summer is sadly over, but for many locals and visitors this is their favorite time of the year. Why you may ask? Well here are just a few of the reasons why to some, fall is almost better than the summer:
The weather!
To most, when the kids go back to school, summer is over. This year, the weather didn’t seem to get the ‘end of summer’ memo.
Check out our forecast for this upcoming mid-September weekend. Looks like summer weather to me! Plus, with the Rim Fire being mostly contained we haven’t been experiencing the smoke. The lake is still warm enough to swim in, and although the sun may not be up till 8:30pm, head to the lake for an afternoon swim. And don’t worry about not being able to find the best spot on the beach – because the crowds have abated. Play hooky from work and come up midweek and you might be the only one soaking up the sun!
The Activities!
Just like the beaches are crowd-less, so are the popular hiking trails. Ok, you may not get the spectacular waterfalls like in May and June, but you can still take a dip in Angora Lakes and bask in the sun. It is a great time to hike Mt. Tallac before it is covered in snow again.
Take a morning off and rent a jet-ski or take a wake-boarding lesson. Companies like Ski Run Boat Company are still renting out their water toys, and the Tahoe Queen continues to go out everyday. Or reserve a spot and go fishing with Tahoe Sportfishing! Really you can do everything that is offered in the summer! Why wouldn’t you want to come up and take advantage of the post summer specials!
Play a round or two of golf! After September 21 Edgewood Tahoe Golf course drops their rates. And they are not the only course that has lower fall rates!
The Events!
September 11 – 15.
The Reno Air Races are going on all weekend: named “one of the best 10 best airshows around the world” by USA Today & 10 Best! Five days of racing of six different classes of aircraft. Going at speeds exceeding 500 miles per hour, this is definitely an event in a class of its own. Where else can you see the Jetman – the first jet-powered man?
October 5 – 6:
Celebrate fall with Camp Richardson’s Oktoberfest! Local vendors, German food and desserts, a pumpkin patch for the kids and even a bouncy castle. And of course, beer! Walk off the bratwursts, on the walking path and watch the spawning of the Kokanee Salmon.

Journey is playing at the Lake Outdoor Arena at Harveys (7pm)
September 21:
The Robert Cray Band is playing at the South Shore Room inside Harrah’s Lake Tahoe (7:30pm)
October 5:
Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers are performing at MontBleu Casino (9pm)
