If you are visiting South Lake Tahoe in the summer, chances are you want to take a boat out on Lake Tahoe. Depending on your preference, this could be renting a paddleboard or zooming around the Lake on a jet ski. No matter what on-the-water activity you are looking to enjoy, Tahoe Sports will have your boat rental needs covered. This full service, year round rental company has every kind of boat you could want. And, they are located in two convenient locations on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Ski Run Boat Company is located at the end of Ski Run Boulevard, in the same parking area as Riva Grill. Tahoe Sports also owns Tahoe Keys Boat & Charter Rentals out of the Tahoe Keys Marina. Both locations are convenient to any of our California vacation rental homes. Below are the options for boat rentals at both locations, visit their website for complete descriptions, prices and availability!
Pontoon Boat Rentals
If you are looking for a leisurely adventure on Lake Tahoe, a Pontoon Boat or a sailboat might be just the thing. Between both companies, there are three different classes of pontoon boats available to rent. The Bronze Class pontoon boats can seat 11 guests and both the Silver Class and Gold Class pontoon boats can seat 13. The Silver Class, Patio Tritoon Boats go at a quicker pace, and the Gold Class Patio Pontoon Boats provide speed luxury and comfort! Rentals range from hourly rates up to a seven day rental.
Jet Ski Rentals
Both locations rent out the popular personal watercraft boats. Ski Run Boat Company offers both Yamaha and Kawasaki rentals, while the Tahoe Keys Boat & Charter Rentals only have Yamaha. You can ride one of these solo, or some can fit up to 3 people (as long as it is under the weight limit). Choose a rental from 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours or up to 8 hours. If you are interested in more of an adventure, Ski Run Boat Company offers Emerald Bay Guided Jet Ski Tour! Your rental gets you 2 hours on the jet ski, and a guided tour!
Power Boat Rentals
Both locations have a large range of power boats, from runabouts to a ski boat. Their standard boat rentals are either a Reinell or a Four Winns, and range from seating 7 guests up to 13! These are the perfect option for a family or group of friends look to explore the area. Rent from 1 hour up to a 7 day rental. Rates will depend on the type of boat needed, and the length of time. For the water sports enthusiasts, a few of the boats do have towers, and you can add on a wake board or water ski. Pack a picnic, and head into the gorgeous blue waters for a day of boating fun with your family!
Water and Beach Toys
If you are not looking to travel across the lake and back in one day, you can instead choose to rent a human powered boat. Both locations rent out kayaks and paddle boats, perfect for a calm water day. Paddle boards are available from Ski Run Boat Company, and hydro bikes and water tricycles are available out of the Tahoe Keys Boat & Charter Rentals. These options are more economical than an 8 hour powerboat rental, and start at $17 per hour for a half-hour kayak rental. Rentals go up to a full day.
Don’t Forget to Bring Your…
The primary renter must bring their drivers license or passport for identification. This same person must also have a credit card to purchase their rental. For everyone enjoying the bluebird waters, it is recommended that you protect yourself from the sun. Even if you are used to spending time on the water, don’t forget that Lake Tahoe sits at 6,220 feet above sea level and the sun is strong! When you take out a boat, don’t forget to bring (and apply) some sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Don’t forget some beach towels, and it is also advisable to bring an extra layer. A windbreaker or sweatshirt might come in handy if the wind comes up.
Lake Boating Adventures
Depending on what type of boat you decide to rent there are some must see destinations. The top, of course, being Emerald Bay. Even if you have seen the inlet from above, it is something else to see it from the water. Set anchor on the sandy shore and spend an hour or two exploring and playing in the water. This is a great destination for the morning before the sun starts shading the bay. You can also take your boat to Rubicon Point, Meeks Bay, Nevada Beach, Skunk Harbor, Sand Harbor or even up to Crystal Bay. If you would like to stop for a bite to eat white boating around, Lake Tahoe has some restaurants right on the water with buoys available. Sunnyside is located on the west shore, Garwoods is up on the north shore, and The Beacon at Camp Richardson and Riva Grill at Ski Run are easy destinations on the South Shore.
