President’s Day Weekend Activities!

February 10, 2015

Presidents Day Banner
It has happened, Mother Nature has finally decided to grace us with some of that glorious white SNOW! We received over a foot of snow over the past weekend, and Tahoe is rejoicing! So it is time for you to cancel your Bay Area plans for this weekend and come up to South Lake Tahoe! With Saturday being Valentine’s Day, and Monday is President’s Day there are some great activities to partake in when you get here!

Enjoy the Slopes
For those of you that are skiers and riders, hit the slopes! The weather is looking to be fabulous this weekend, and with the new snow many of the ski areas have opened up new terrain for the season. If you are thinking of visiting either Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort or Kirkwood Mountain Resort, be sure to pre-order your lift tickets! Why you ask?  Well, most importantly, you save money! And who doesn’t love saving a little bit of money? Secondly, the time you would be standing in the lift ticket line can be spent instead zooming down the slopes! So really, you shouldn’t even have to think about this if you know you want to ski! If you are going ski or ride and don’t have your own equipment, we can help you out there too! We work with many local companies to offer you the best price on your equipment rentals. By reserving your rentals in advance, you can take advantage of our exclusive Buckingham discounts. Visit our Concierge Page for a list of local companies and links to each page.

Ride up the Heavenly GondolaFran_Gondola8
Those of you who have at Heavenly Mountain Resort will already know of the spectacular lake views from the mountain. It is one thing to see the Lake Tahoe from the beach, but it is entirely another to view the lake from above. On a clear day with snow on the surrounding mountains, it really is worth the money to ride on the gondola. Your site-seeing ticket will take you up to the top of the gondola, with a stop at mid-station where the best views are! Here you can walk around the viewing area and feast your eyes on our one-of-a kind alpine lake. Don’t forget your cameras! Up at the top of the gondola, you will find yourself at Tamarack Lodge where you can let your kids go down the tubing hill or just sit in the sun and watch the skiers and riders on the mountain! More information Here.

Take a Carriage Ride
Ok, normally you would want to take a sleigh ride during February. But, due to the weather Borges Sleigh and Carriage Rides has improvised and are offering carriage rides through downtown South Lake Tahoe. Operating here in town since 1969, they know how to create lasting memories for your whole family. Choose between  larger carriages for bigger groups or the more intimate smaller carriage for a more romantic ride. Adults and kids alike will enjoy this unique way to see the town! They operate weekends at the Stateline in front of the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.  Call 775-588-2953 for reservations or visit their Website.

Emerald BayDrive to Emerald Bay
If you generally don’t visit Tahoe in the warmer months, you may not have had the chance to drive to Emerald Bay (or all the way around Lake Tahoe). During heavy snow periods this road is often closed, which is understandable if you have driven it! With high temperatures and cloudless skies in our forecast, this is a great time to see one of the most photographed spots in all of Tahoe. From town, drive towards Camp Richardson and continue on Highway 89. Once at Emerald Bay, there are two viewing spots and trails if you want to walk down to the water. We recommend visiting in the morning so that you are in the sun (the inlet is in the shade most of the afternoon, and it can be chilly)! Don’t forget your cameras!

Hit the Town
Visitors that are over 21 should hit the ‘strip’ at least one night during your stay. With multiple bars, restaurants and clubs surrounding the casinos you are sure to have a great night! We recommend visiting the new Hard Rock Hotel Casino which opened last month. Featuring new restaurants like the Oyster Bar and Fire Break it is worth visiting! Entertainment this weekend includes Jefferson Starship at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe and Starset at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Don’t forget you can dance like you did in the 80s at Boogie Nights at MontBlue Saturday night, or hang out at Opal Ultra Lounge at Montblue or Peek Nightclub inside Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

Valentine’s Day Date Night
valentine-clipart-Free-Valentines-Day_clip_art_7Many of our local restaurants have special menus for Valentine’s Day so choose your cuisine of choice and enjoy! Planning on spending a romantic evening in? Stop at one of our local bakeries (Cakes by Grace and Sugarpine are our favorites) and pick up a delicious dessert. If you are planning on dining out for dinner, be sure to make reservations in advance.  Our top five date-night restaurants include the Chart House (on Kingsbury Grade), Jimmy’s Restaurant at The Landing Resort and Spa, Riva Grill on the Lake, Edgewood Restaurant, and the Beacon Bar & Grill at Camp Richardson. Happy Valentine’s Day!

We do have a few luxury vacation rentals available for this weekend, and have removed our three night minimum!
