South Lake Tahoe is starting to fill up with visitors, the sure sign that summer is here! And for most, including us, July 4th feels like the true summer kick-off! So you have secured your fabulous vacation rental, now what!? Clearly, the highlight of July 4th in town is the Lights on the Lake fireworks show Friday night. Aside from the fireworks display, there are great events going on throughout the whole weekend. Here are just a few ideas of what you, your family and friends
Thursday
Live at Lakeview: This ongoing summer event is popular with both visitors and locals alike. Every Thursday, El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons hosts FREE concerts. In additional to great music, there is a beer garden, local vendors, free bike valet and food! Parking is limited at the actual venue, so we recommend parking off site and biking to the beach. Even better, cruise over on a boat and listen to the music from the water. Pack a picnic, and prepare to dance around while watching a beautiful Tahoe sunset.
4:30 – 8:30
Friday
Fourth of July Parade: Starting at 10am sharp, this parade is to honor our veterans, the fallen and current military men and women. Come out in your red, white and blue and cheer on our locals! The parade starts at Les Shwab Tires at the ‘Y’ and ends at the American Legion Post #795 at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
10am – 11 Parade, 11am – 3pm Celebration!
Lights on the Lake Fireworks: Scheduled to start at 9:45pm, this show was rated in the top five best displays in the country by the American Pyrotechnic Association. So this is a show you will not want to miss. If you are lucky enough to have a home on the lake, or with a lake view you might be able to see the display right from your porch! If not, check out this list of great viewing spots around town. We suggest getting to your preferred viewing spot early, as the roads get crowded!
Saturday
Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue Beach Cleanups: Spend your morning doing something good for the environment. We all know that July 4th is a popular time to party on our beaches. With all this influx of people, trash does get left behind. Keep Tahoe Blue has organized beach clean-ups at various locations around South Lake Tahoe on Saturday. In South Lake Tahoe the locations include Taylor Creek, Kiva Beach, Tallac Historic Site, Regan Beach, El Dorado Beach, Timber Cove Beach and Nevada Beach. Check out their website for information on volunteering!
9am – Noon
Steve Barton Summer Show: We have some great art galleries in town, and the Marcus Ashley Gallery (located in the same shopping center as our office), is one of our favorites. This weekend, come meet Steve Barton and watch him create his one of a kind wavy art. His work focuses on beach scenes, tropical landscapes, vineyards and of course Lake Tahoe. This gallery also features the work of Dr. Suess, so bring in the whole family!
10am – 6pm Saturday and Sunday
Sunday
Why not take a ride on Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Gondola. As you start climbing the mountain, this ride offers some of the best views of Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe. Once you reach the top of the gondola, you arrive at Tamarack Lodge. From there Heavenly is now offering great summer activities for the whole family including the new Blue Streak Zip Line, ropes courses, summer tubing and of course great hiking. Click on the picture for more information!
Gondola Hours 10am – 5pm
As always, remember to celebrate responsibly and have fun!
