The 25th annual American Century Championship is back in town this week, starting July 15 and continuing through the weekend! If you are already a fan of this one-of-a kind tournament, you know it is not one to miss. If you are new to the celebrity golf championship, it is a great family friendly golf tournament location on the most scenic golf course in the world (in our opinion, at least)! Broadcast by NBC sports every year, this tournament is all about charity. Over the years since the tournaments inception, 4 million dollars has been donated to national and local non-profits. This year the Stowers Institute for Medical Research is the charity recipient. This institute focuses on biomedical research to improve our understanding of fundamental biological processes and treat, diagnose and prevent disease.
The tournament starts today, with the Tahoe South Celebrity-Am. In this event, four local amateurs are partnered with one celebrity to see how they fare on the tough course (admission is $15). Wednesday is a practice round for all of the celebrity competitors. This is open to the public and admission is only $15.
7am on Thursday is the start of the American Century Celebrity-Am tournament. At the 17th hole, players can partake in the Korbel Celebrity Spray Off competition. See how far they can shoot Korbel Champagne out of the bottle!
Admission prices jump up for the remaining three days, at $25, marking the start of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. Tee-off starts at 8:30 as players compete in round one of the championship. The competition comes to a finale on Sunday!
Celebrities you might see whacking a golf ball include: Olympic skier Bode Miller, Larry the Cable Guy, former tennis player James Blake, hockey player Martin Brodeur, The Office actor Brian Baumgartner, Rascal Flatts musician Jay DeMarcus, actor Ray Romano and so many more!
Be sure to get through the gates early so you can find your preferred viewing spot, or follow your favorite player around the course. Be sure to bring something to shade yourself from the sun, and bring lots of water. We have been experiencing record high temperatures recently.
